Throughout history, theater production has had a role to play in the development of modern entertainment. As movies or music videos became more available to those with less funds, theater production has taken a hit in its popularity. This series focusses on a specific company that starts out on the verge of bankruptcy. This company arranges for a group of actors to put on a play for one season (spring, summer, autumn, winter) and then switching to another group (totaling 4 groups). With each group doing everything possible to grow, the company begins to gain more traction and even competes against a more popular group from another company. Are they able to best that group and gain even more popularity or will they have to shut down?
There are currently 2 seasons (12 episodes each) in this anime. That is approximately 6 episodes per group. Similar to sports anime, this series focus on the training (practice) and production of each play. I do not know much about acting, but this series really does a good job with showing the difficulty in practicing for a play, even what could happen if you clam up and lose confidence in front of the audience. The series feels very repetitive overall. There is a need for more actors, actors with little to no experience (with the exception of 1 or 2) join the company for the new season, they write a script for a new play, they practice the play and then it is put on for an audience a few times. If it is possible to overlook that fact, the actual story itself is intriguing. A company on the brink of bankruptcy gains popularity with the public with honest work and people with a true passion for acting find a home to grow together.
I enjoyed the first groups story, after that it was difficult to maintain motivation to finish the series. In my opinion, this series is interesting as it is based on a theater company who produces plays year-round and in order to accomplish this, they break their company up into four groups who puts on a play in their designated season. If you ask me, that is an unique concept. It is not easy to make it work without making it feel repetitive. Near the end of the second season, the storyline does shift and gives a different feeling to the narrative. I believe that gives the series potential to improve if continued. Now that you know my opinion on this anime, what do you think? This is Skyler signing off for now, UNTIL NEXT TIME!!
